Staffing and Faculty Arrival
Hiring lab members that currently work for faculty member that will transfer to LSI:
If one of the following positions: laboratory technicians, lab managers/supervisors, or graduate students is transferring to the LSI, the following is needed to Erin Stephens at least 60 days before actual start date of lab member at the LSI:
- A detailed job description of current duties of lab member with percent effort for each duty listed (must add up to 100%). Will need to post position on U of M job posting website;
- Up-to-date CV/resume of lab member transferring, along with their start date;
Once lab member is hired through job posting, Erin will register them to attend a New Employee Orientation (NEO) where they will receive their MCard, complete appointment paperwork, receive Benefits and Retirement packages, parking permit options, first timesheet (either monthly or biweekly).
We do not need to receive job description and post position for the following positions: research fellows (post-docs) and faculty member transferring.
If the lab member is currently on a visa, they will need to contact Erin at least 60 days before their start date to transfer their visa to U of M (J1/H1B/F1 CPT/OPT).
Hiring new lab members that will work for faculty member once they arrive
Faculty member should contact Erin Stephens once they have decided that they would like to hire a new lab member upon their arrival at the LSI. The following will need to be sent to Erin:
- A detailed job description of duties that will be expected of the new lab member along with percent effort for each duty listed (must add up to 100%);
Erin will work with faculty member on deciding appropriate title of position and salary - based on job description submitted.
Will need to post position on U of M job posting website. Erin will forward all applications received to faculty member so that interviewing for position can start at faculty member's convenience.
Once faculty member has decided on selected applicant for the position, Erin will complete the hiring process - will need to know salary, shortcode(s) that will pay salary and start date.
Faculty Member
Upon arrival - complete appointment paperwork, MCard, Parking Permit, Benefits (will receive personal worksheet to choose benefit options 30 days after arrival), Retirement (will receive retirement paperwork 30 days after arrival). Please note: New faculty members do not attend NEO.
